ALL ABOUT US AND WHAT WE DO

WHO WE ARE

Our …..

Mission

To empower communities through public participation, education, and strategic partnerships for effective environmental conservation and climate change management.

Vision

Sustainable life and livelihoods in a safe and secure environment through public participation initiatives.

We Are The Champions Of Environmental Conservation

BIOLEAD was formed by like-minded individuals who are passionate about championing environmental conservation, food security and climate change.

We are a registered NGO in Kenya and we aim to conserve the environment through students in Primary, Secondary schools and institutions of higher learning. We believe in teaching the young generations the virtues of conserving the environment through the ‘Adopt A Tree’ model and in future, they will grow to be global ambassadors of environment conservation.

BIOLEAD has been and continues to sensitise the public that environmental degradation, deforestation, and food insecurity are deeper issues of disempowerment, disenfranchisement, and a loss of the traditional values that has previously enabled communities to protect their environment, work together for mutual benefit, and to do both selflessly and honestly.

Our Core Values…..

BIOLEAD is founded on the following core values:

·       Public Health and Safety

·       Justice and Fairness

·       Transparency

·       Accountability

·       Non-confrontation and peaceful co-existence

·       Non- Discrimination

·       Public participation

·       Collaboration

·       Posterity

·       Inclusion

·       Diversity

GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE

Our Patron

We are honored to have Hon. Dr. Alela as the esteemed Patron of BIOLEAD. With a deep commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable development, and community empowerment, Dr. Alela is a visionary leader who resonates with our mission and objectives.

Dr. Alela’s Perspective:

“As our world grapples with the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, it is essential that we come together to safeguard our planet for current and future generations. I am privileged to be associated with BIOLEAD, an organization that champions the cause of preserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing the quality of life for communities in Vihiga and Kakamega Counties.

The intricate link between a thriving environment and the well-being of our people cannot be overstated. Our forests, rivers, and ecosystems play a pivotal role in ensuring clean air, water, and a balanced climate. By fostering public participation, education, and partnerships, Bio-lead is nurturing a culture of environmental consciousness that will shape a brighter future.

I believe that through collective efforts, we can bring about transformative change. Together, we can restore degraded landscapes, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and create opportunities for communities to thrive sustainably. The initiatives undertaken by Bio-lead, guided by their strategic approach, provide a roadmap for achieving these goals.

I encourage everyone to join BIOLEAD’s movement and contribute to the preservation of our natural heritage. By standing united, we can achieve a more resilient and harmonious coexistence with our environment. Let us leave a legacy of stewardship and responsible custodianship for generations to come.”

As we continue our journey towards a greener and more sustainable future, we are grateful for Dr. Alela’s guidance, support, and dedication to our cause. With his leadership and our collective efforts, we are confident that positive change is not only possible but inevitable.

Join us in honouring Dr. Alela’s vision and contributing to a brighter and healthier future for all.

Our Leadership Structures

The BIOLEAD governance Structure is built around the concept of people participation, which is a democratic tenet. Environmental matters should be people centred to achieve meaningful outcomes. The people should understand their role, gain insights and knowledge in environmental management and the need to embed this in their daily lives so that matters of environment becomes a lifestyle, a culture. Environmental management therefore becomes a norm and a lifestyle rather than some remote idea pushed around by foreign entities. The principle is that the people themselves should take the lead in matters that directly affect their daily lives.

The Societies Act (CAP 108) guides the governance of BIOLEAD. The Structure is reflected in articles 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 of the BIOLEAD constitution that provides for seven-(7) office bearers lead by a chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and a Biodiversity and Conservation Champion. These must be elected by members through regular elections to preserve legitimacy and provide accountable leadership to the association. The Executive committee consisting of the seven (7) office bearers and four (4) other elected members is the policymaking organ of the association.

The trustees are also part of the structure whose main role is to act as trustees of assets acquired by the association. In terms of organization, the association shall endeavour to be grass roots oriented as part of people participation by ensuring that there are civilian environmental oversight committees in each ward and village within the two (2) counties led by a BIOLEAD Champion. The executive committee shall decide the number, composition and their operational guidelines.
